Stakeholders Support for Ogun State Government Planting materials Pallative for small holder farmers (Video)



In tandem with agenda to diversify the economy into agriculture, the Ogun state government has given out free 80,000 kilogram of maize and 80,000 bundles of cassava tree to 40,000 farmers in the state.

The State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun while speaking on the gesture noted that the initiative would help small holder farmers to be able to plant 3,000 hectares of maize and one 1,600 hectares of maize.

Abiodun who was represented by the his wife, Mrs Bamidele Abiodun made the disclosure during the flagging off of the distribution of the free planting materials palliative to the farmers at the Agro Services Corporation, Ikenne, Ogun State.

His words “it is part of his efforts to combat the current global pandemic in the state, saying that he has consistently worked towards stemming the spread of the pandemic as well as mitigating the effects on the people.”

He added ”As government, our focus on agriculture from inception recognizes the role being played by smallholder farmers who are responsible for 75 percent of overall food production and security activities in the state.

”Just three weeks ago, I flagged off the commencement of the 2020 planting season with input , credit and technology support for 3,500 cassava farmers and i am pleased to also inform you that we are about to commence the same support for rice , cotton, maize and cattle farmers and others, he further stressed.

Abiodun hinted that he has mandated the ministry of agriculture state wide facilitated distribution to all farms and farmers through the extension agents in the ministry, adding that it would start from Wednesday until the end of the planting season.

He called on the farmers to take care of themselves adequately by maintaining social distancing, prioritizing personal hygiene in farms and markets, advising them to always report any suspicious movements in communities.

The Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Samson Adeola Odedina praised the Ogun state governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun for his great concern for the ministry, revealing that, “this administration has really helped the farmers in the state.”

He also advised the beneficiaries, to make proper use of the Cassava, and Maize saying that it will help them to go a long way in the state.
