Ogun Lawmaker fetes people with special needs, promises empowerment

A member representing Abeokuta South II State Constituency in the Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon. Ademuyiwa Adeyemi has again extended his humanitarian gesture to his people with Special needs in his constituency, with the provision of food items to cushion the effect of restriction occasioned by the pandemic.

The self-sponsored items provided to the over 100 disabled people at the Alake Sports Centre, included rice, spaghetti, garri, indomie, soap and face mask.

Ademuyiwa in his remarks, noted that the donation was borne out of his concern for them being a section of the society that deserved special attention. According to the lawmaker, " it is my belief that most vulnerable set of people in our society now are people with special needs because most of them can only do little or nothing to cater for themselves'

He added that, "the most vulnerable are purely the people with special needs, hence, politicians and other well meaning individuals must make it a duty of reaching out to them and make them feel like they are integral part of the society that must not be neglected"

Adeyemi remarked that " my presence here today is to fellowship with you my fellow  brothers and sisters, having got a thought about how best to always engage you at ensuring a better life. I've decided to include you in my constituency engagement with a view to designing programmes that would bring about self sustainability for you all"

Responding, the State Chairman, Association of  Physically Challenged People, Comrade  Kayode Sonde showered encomium on the lawmaker for identifying with them at this down time.

Sonde described the gesture as a unusual one, saying that ”We want to appreciate the support of Hon. Adeyemi  for this kind gesture at all times,  this is another one again,  he donated bags of rice, bags of garri, packs of Indomie, soap and other food materials to us."

”We have never experienced this love before, he felt for us because he understands our  condition and he doesn’t want us to starve.

”We are sure  that he will continue with this kind gesture, we are praying for him that he will continue to see the blessings of God as he has  remembered us today may God continue to remember him for good things” He concluded.

He however called on other politicians to emulate the actions of the lawmaker in empowering them and providing  means of survival for them beyond this pandemic period.
