Dapo Abiodun was born 29 May 1960 and is a Nigerian businessman and politician, who is the Governor of Ogun State after winning the 2019 general elections under the platform of the All Progressive Congress. He hails from Iperu Remo in Ogun State and belongs to a royal family. He was born into the family of Dr Emmanuel and Mrs Victoria Abiodun from Iperu Remo, in Ogun East senatorial district on 29 May 1960.


On 10 March 2019, he was declared Governor-Elect of Ogun State by the Independent National Electoral Commission. He was sworn in as Governor of Ogun State on 29 May 2019.


As expected, Dapo Abiodun is an educated elite. He studied civil engineering at the Obafemi Awolowo University Ife, Osun State and subsequently, Accounting at Kennesaw State University, Atlanta Georgia, United States of America (USA). He also holds a Honours et Doctorate Degree in Finance from Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State and another in Business Administration from Adeleke University, Ede, Osun State. He was involved in a certificate scandal in the buildup to the 2019 general elections, due to the fact that he claimed in the 2015 senatorial election form for Ogun East to have graduated from Obafemi Awolowo University, but in the 2019 governorship form, he claimed to possess only secondary school certificate of education.


Dapo Abiodun was the board Chairman of the Corporate Affairs Commission. He is the managing director of Heyden Petroleum. He is a very rich man before he bacame the Governor of Ogun state as he is the managing director/CEO of Heyden Petroleum Ltd [HPL], an indigenous player in the downstream, midstream, and upstream oil and gas industry in Nigeria. He is also reportedly the founder of First Power Limited.
