Misconception of Philosophy and Philosophers

Demythological account of philosophy
The misconception people had towards philosophy and philosophers.

Generally most people believe that all philosophers are atheist. They therefore see philosophy as a venture that negate or denied the essence and existence of God.

My intention however is to clarify the concept and expose the relavance of philosophy to the society and correct the misconception of what philosophy is not.

The meaning of philosophy has been misinterpreted in many ways, many did not know the difference between philosophy nd atheism.

I will like to clearify the meaning of philosophy and the meaning of atheism; most people when they ask what course are you studying in school and you reply them with philosophy the next thing they said is so you too did not believe that there is God...! Lolz

Philosophy is derived from the two greek words, Philien and Sophia.
Philien means love while Sophia means knowledge; Therefore, Philosophy means love of knowledge

Philosophy is an academic discipline that exercises reason and logic in an attempt to understand reality and answer fundamental questions about knowledge, life, morality and human nature.

Those who study philosophy are called Philosophers. Through the ages, philosophers have sought to answer such questions as, what is the meaning and purpose of life? How do we know what we know? Does God exist? What does it mean to possess consciousness? And, what is the value of morals?.

The term "atheism" originated from the Greek word atheos, meaning "without god(s)", used as a pejorative term applied to those thought to reject the gods worshiped by the larger society.

Atheism is the view that God does not exist. Those who believe in atheism are called atheist.

There are two types of atheism, which are practical atheism and theoectical atheism.

Practical or pragmatic atheism, also known as apatheism, individuals live as if there are no gods and explain natural phenomena without reference to any deities. The existence of gods is not rejected, but may be designated unnecessary or useless gods neither provide purpose to life, nor influence everyday life, according to this view.

A form of practical atheism with implications for the scientific community is methodological naturalism—the "tacit adoption or assumption of philosophical naturalism within scientific method with or without fully accepting or believing it."

Theoretical (or theoric) atheism explicitly posits arguments against the existence of gods, responding to common theistic arguments such as the argument from design or Pascal's Wager . Theoretical atheism is mainly an ontology; more precisely, a physical ontology.

People has misinterpreted philosophy to atheism in the sense that many people believe that since you study philosophy in school you will definately not believe in God and God existence.

I will categorically tell you that philosophers have denied and proof the existence of God in many ways.

Philosophy as an enterprise does not subject itself to a particular interpretation. Many scholars had contributed divergently to arrive at common fundamental questions of reality. Religion however is a subset of philosophy business and not the aggregate of philosophy business.
