Lagos state has of today commenced the installation of 2,000 prohibition signs across the metropolis, in a renewed effort towards creating awareness on the Lagos State Traffic Laws on restricted areas for the operation of motorcycles and tricycles, this was posted from the official Twitter handle of the Lagos state government.

The Lagos state commissioner of Information and Strategy, Mr Omotosho has earlier stated that the motorcycle and keke riders are fond of violation the laws of the state regarding road usage and this necessitated the ban. He also said the government cannot watch the peace of the state get disrupted by motorcycle riders as over 70 people died from 2015 to 2019 in tricycle accidents and over 200 injured.

The commissioner also said over 30 armed robbery cases involving bikes were reported with the Police thwarting around 20 of them, recovering ammunition from them. Further emphasising the danger of the okada on highways in Lagos, the commissioner said okada has recorded over 600 kills in road accident in just 4 years with over 200 motorcycle accidents recorded monthly in Lagos hospitals. He added that okada is used to escape robberies with many of the riders having no traceable identification.
